Il Bisonte, I have two. One bought at Bloomingdale's early 90s and another bought in 2013, paid $800.

Anecdote:

I was at the desk at kid's junior high school, receptionist says "oooh I LOVE your Coach bag!"
Me: "it's an Il Bisonte and you just insulted it".

I also love Dooney and Bourke's Alto line.

I think I got my last one a couple years ago at Target for maybe around $30. I'd spend up to ~$100 if I was really having trouble finding one that fit my requirements since I am very picky about what my purse has to look like. So I'm hoping this one won't be falling apart anytime soon--else I'll have to start another search for one; something for ~$30 at Target or Walmart is what I'd prefer!

You can buy handmade handbags on Etsy for reasonable prices that are beautifully made.

There is a new startup called "Italic" that is going to sell handbags without labels from the same factories that make luxury handbags. Genius.

The markup on luxury handbags is exorbitant. They want you to think it's because you are buying better quality, but it's a lie. The factories produce the luxury handbags with amazing workmanship for a tiny fraction of the retail price. It's the designer label that commands the high price.

I'm re-thinking my handbag spending. Over the last couple of years I got a new bag for summer and a different for winter and am not happy with how they're holding up. One was $60, the other a bit less. I'm not happy with the quality of most vegan leather (there's a moniker, read: cheap vinyl) and I've been thinking I need to buy a bag, regardless of label, that will keep its shape and last for several seasons. I tend to use them until they fall apart, but I'd rather they don't look like it for the majority of time I have them.

$75. I always buy used designer on eBay in great condition. I've saved thousands that way.

Hangbags, my current limit is up to 1K. I only by bags every few years, and only ever quality. All of my bags I have bought in the last 15 years (with the exception of 1 and I will NEVER rebuy that brand) are in perfect condition.

I'm currently eyeing a Chloe bag and a YSL. I don't buy trendy, with high end designers...I buy classic, that I can use for years and years.

I'd say the most I'd spend is $800-1000. I've owned $400+ handbags that were purchased for less via consignment. But I'm not really a handbag person. My Coach wallet is still in excellent condition after six years. It was $600.

So is my nice Fossil wallet which I bought about 6 yrs. ago that was $55. I also have a very nice Anne Klein black leather bag with "gold" trims and a beautiful lining. Paid about $70 for those at Stein Mart. What is the thrill of paying so much money for a handbag ? Unless you're wearing a $5,000 outfit, a $1,000 pair of shoes, and your hairdresser charges $300 for a cut 'n style. If people who give beaucoup dollars annually to a worthy charity for the poor or crippled, then handbags and wallets don't matter.

To the poster (who shall remain nameless here because s/he was nice enough not to wimp out by hiding his or her user name): Believe me when I tell you that my husband has no role whatsoever in my personal purchases, be they purses, shoes, or anything else.

Oh, and I do "splurge" on myself occasionally. But a $2K handbag? That would be good for a momentary chuckle, but I'd pass I neither want nor need to spend that much for a durable, attractive purse.

The world is full of people who get in the Pay More Here line; this little girl isn't one of them.

Honestly I don't see the point in spending more for a purse than what I have to put in it. It's a vessel to carry my woman-crap (and the junk my husband hands me ) nothing more, nothing less. I'd probably go up to $50 but it would have to be absolutely perfect for what I want. Most purses to me are more of a "I guess it'll work". I'd rather splurge on other things but to each their own.
