You can look it up online. Efudex is like a sharpshooter for sundamaged skin. It mainly goes after the cells that are dividing quickly. I put it on my face once a day (or was it 2x? -- I think it was once) for seven days. At about day seven, skin starts to look sunburned and then it looked totally fried. I could not go outside. Your face gets very tight. I had to put vaseline on it every day so it wouldn't crack. It can get quite uncomfortable and the appearance is shocking. Eventually, the skin begins to itch, and then you wash it and the scabby stuff starts to come off and reveal fresh new pink baby skin underneath. The new skin is very soft, like baby butt skin. The pink fades to soft pink to your normal color skin. I tried efudex because my dermatogist has perfect skin. It looks like talcum powder. I said to her, I want skin like that! She said, Okay, you can have it, but I'll warn you the treatment is horrible. I said, "Whatever, just do it."
You have about a week of discomfort, so you want to stock up on food and Netflix movies and invite friends to come over and visit. Ask them to bring some dinner or cook for you, because it can get miserable.
I'm quite happy I did it, but you have to be able to tough it out. Also, I did have some complications. I was sick with a bad cold that went into my chest. I also got an infection on my face -- something you have to be very careful about with any peel. You must keep your hands off your face, because you have raw naked skin there. My face blew up like a pumpkin and I had to go on antibiotics. My friend had to come over and spend the night. I couldn't sleep because I was in a lot of pain. But a week later I went back to the doctor. My cold was gone, my face looked normal, and I felt great. it was all very dramatic....
But hey, who said beauty was easy?
For those afraid of pain and discomfort, don't bother with any serious peel, and don't get your legs waxed either.
