Are bath robes really necessary? (fashion, look, clothes, thin)

I've often wondered what the real need for bathrobes were...I mean isn't a towel enough to cover your modesty if you need to leave the bathroom? Is it just to look a bit more fashionable? Seems sorta lazy too, I mean I think of bathrobes as for people who are too lazy to put on proper clothes but want to walk around the clothes nude or with undies underneath.
Say what you want, but I love my bathrobe! I walk 12 miles in an 8 hr shift and workout everyday for 30-60mins....I'm so far from lazy..and after a hot shower nothing is better than relaxing in a really nice cotton robe and a cup of tea.
If it is really cold in the house and you're transitioning from bed to shower with some time in between (say for coffee or your morning City Data addiction) it's easier to just throw a bathrobe on than to put on sweats and a sweatshirt.
Other than that, I never wear one.
Now, if someone would start a thread on pajama use, or uselessness, I could understand that. How can ANYONE sleep in pajamas (unless they're filming a Lucy and Ricky type show)?
I find them completely useless. I dry off and immediately put on whatever it is i'm wearing to bed. If after a workout, I simply put on whatever it is I'll be wearing the rest of the day.
I think they're very useful. When I'm home, I'm rarely presentable. I hate getting dressed. I lounge around the house in a tank top & sometimes with shorts. So if someone knocks on my door, or if I have to go retrieve the newspaper, it's nice to have a robe to throw on. And in the winter, it is nice to put on that thick robe and "dry off' in front of the fireplace before getting dressed or putting on a nightgown.

It's hard to cook and eat breakfast, or read the Sunday paper and drink coffee, in a towel. Especially in the winter; that might be a tad chilly.
