I'm personally experienced with this. Other than the money, the only major problem with the procedure is having to wear something around the ears for a few weeks (if that's still the case with all otoplasties these days). If the ears stick out much, then absolutely the end result will be an improvement. You really can't trust how people say they will react in a dating situation, and if people are noticing ears before other facial features, that's a problem. It's possible to experiment with Photoshop beforehand.

I'd go to a really good cosmetic surgeon and ask what procedures s/he recommends. I knew I wasn't happy with my face but wasn't sure why, went to one of the best surgeons in my city, and ended up with fat rearrangement under my eyes, a brow lift and cheek implants. After the surgery, people told me my ears and nose looked smaller, even though I hadn't done anything to them. A skilled surgeon can picture how all the chessboard pieces will be affected by a single change or by multiple changes. Maybe, even though it's your ears that bother you, direct surgery on your ears isn't the best option for you.

I tried something as good or better than photoshop , I just used some double sided tape and I can tell instantly it would be an improvement. I also googled - Otoplasty before and after images and 99% were a big improvement.
I've already talked to one surgeon, he said it would be no big deal and would improve my looks.
I'm going to talk to another one soon and decide .

thanks for the input from everyone

Maybe if this guy had gotten his ears fixed he would not have ended up on mugshots!

My philosophy is: if it will make you feel better and you can afford it, do it.

Get your ears done. Since it bothers you so much, you'll feel a lot better about yourself after you do them.

Ears are the last thing I look at on a man. Just keep them clean and de-fuzzed please. Why have unnecessary surgery and risk infection? Take the money, honey, you'd spend on the procedure and go splurge at Cabela's!

Like I said I have a thin build and thin face even though I work out and stay in good shape. I have started to do some online dating and want to look the same in my photos as in person. I have some decent photos but always turn my head a bit so the shape of my ears aren't so obvious.
I already talked to a plastic surgeon and it will run about 5K total to have it done. I plan to call around more and get references from some people I know.
Still open to more opinions and ideas .... ??
$5K???? Think about how much gear you could buy at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops for that! Or even fly to Alaska and go charter fishing!

A more attractive mate and a higher salary are possible benefits that would trump just about any alternative way of spending about $5000.

Agree that it isn't necessary, but if it makes you feel better, go for it.

Just one thought that I would like to share. I remember when my grandfather had his eyes done. He wasn't doing it merely for cosmetic reasons, but it didn't matter. He never looked like the grandfather I loved and grew up with after that. I only keep his "former" pictures around my house as that's the man I wanted to remember. Just a small thing, maybe, but it made a difference to me.
