Wassup with that? It's mainly hats and gym shoes, from what I have seen. And I saw this years ago and was shocked to see it again within the last few months!

I have two theories on what it may symbolize: either to show off the price or because the original "taggers" were shoplifting and it became a fad
.

Or... they plan on returning the item after using it.

I have not seen that in my area.

Although I am not sure, I think it is to show off the label/brand of the merchandise. I see it most often with ball caps, particularly New Era hats, where young guys tend to leave the shiny New Era stickers on the vizors.

Maybe they're just lazy.

My husband leaves the tags on everything. I finally decided not to go behind him and take them off, to see how many tags and how long it would take before he noticed it. And I wouldn't be too overly proud about buying sneakers at Walmart.

He currently has left tags on the following: shoes, ballcap, both lawnmowers, leaf blower, outdoor swing, sunglasses, beach umbrella, beach towel, sandals, etc.

This is an "urban" thing. It's nothing new, which is why I was surprised to still see it.
