No, clothes don't make the man, but:

Being a quality guy and presenting yourself as neatly groomed and neatly/nicely dressed subtly emphasizes the fact that you are a man of quality. And PLENTY of women are looking for that. To use a supermarket analogy, you've got your product and you want good sales. You strategically devise and place a display that will draw customer's eyes to the product (YOU). If the product is good, do you want them taking a lot of time guessing whether it's good, or do you want them to see and understand that right away? My bet is you want lots of interest, as quickly as possible for the product.

Clothes don't make the man, BUT they help! I love to see a man in a well-fitted suit. And, for casual wear, nice slacks, khakis, polo type shirt look nice. If the clothes fit, are clean and good repair, it *does* make a difference! It shows he cares about the way he looks (or his wife does )
