Ive got good legs and I've noticed I am in the minority. In summer it gets so hot here people walk around in bathers, shorts are an added extra.

It's winter over here and I love the leather shorts that are now fashionable, although would never wear them myself.

Anyway I saw a young tall slim model looking girl wearing them in the city the other day and she looked ridiculous.

Turns out they're only gorgeous on the catwalk or in the pages of the magazines. Wearing them anywhere else makes you look like Terry Tryhard.

That was one of the first things I bought my husband...... longer shorts. To me his above the knee ones made him look older. Luckily he has teen aged kids so I enlisted them for thumbs up or down.

I have some with 9" inseams and some with 6" inseams. I wear what I feel like and it depends on the weather and where I am going.

I have worked in the marine industry for the past 25 years and shorts are what most boaters and people in the business wear. I always wore Sportif 7 pocket shorts that were a little on the short side and female customers would come up to me and ask where I got them because they wanted them for their man. We sold a lot of shorts because of me wearing those. I literally lived in them at work and off all my life, but since I have gotten older I no longer feel comfortable wearing them that short so I have moved to slightly longer ones, but nowhere near knee length.

I figure if you are going to wear shorts down to your knee you might as well just wear pants.

The shorts I wore for High School Phys Ed back in the Sizties were extremely short -- only a couple of inches down the high; same thing for the basketbal uniforms of the day.

Then in the early Seventies, shorts of this length becane popular for street wear by young women in hot weather. As with brief-type racing swimsuits. "traditional" gym uniforms on a male were viewed as a sign of effeminacy (with the exception that some people stiill slept in them).

Personally, I've never had a problem swimming in a relatively brief suit, but I never wear shorts of any length on the street -- just a personal quirk, I suppose.

I don't think we're allowed to list URLs here, but if you search on "Sportif 7 pocket shorts" you get a site where they say Featuring a classic design, practical features and unequaled comfort - it's no wonder Sportif "Original" cargo shorts are practically the uniform on yachts worldwide! A customer favorite for over 40 years, they're called the world's best boating shorts.

The specs say 5.5" inseam (sizes 48-52), 6.5" inseam (sizes 54-60).

Yup, I agree re the knee-length shorts. But the urge to hide the male body away just seems to be unstoppable in some people--see Mikala43's post. I wonder what's the psychology behind that kind of attitude, at this point in the world's history. Oh well, a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do, if he's young.

I read an Esquire article online recently that said men's shorts shouldn't be shorter than 2-3 inches above the knee. I also read about a trend starting in colleges (in California, I believe) where the guys are wearing short-shorts.

I don't wear shorts unless I am swimming or working out/doing yard work. So I never have to worry about their length
