I smile and say "Thanks!"

Simple, yes?

Well, for anyone without an ounce of social skill or etiquette, you say "thank you". "Thank you" is a typical, but friendly and appreciative, response for many kind gestures and words.

Snip.
Well I think in today's society, you can easily live in a "bubble" and not interact much with the public. Between private automobiles, headphones/portable music, smart phones, video games, online shopping, and self-checkout you can really stay in your zone.

Sometimes people simply are commenting on the fact they like your perfume and not trying to hit on you. I have said to a lady "I really like that perfume you have on" and have had no ulterior motives........I just felt they should know it is nice. No different than telling someone you like their hair done that way or the car they drive, etc.

It seems people today are afraid to interact with others and say anything to them, but if I like something I will speak up.

I have said it to nice scented men before.
I have to admit, I enjoy seeing them blush.

Your original ?
Just say thank you and move on.
What was she wearing by the way??

So that all of you know , she said thank you and went about her business , she just thought it odd that a total stranger would say that to her is all . It was just brought up in casual conversation and i was just wondering how other people might have reacted to that . I just love how some of the posters went off track here . I was just curious is all there was to it .

Yep, it's odd nowadays for people to be social and compliment another person.
I do it and sometimes the reaction I get today is sad.
Other times, I make someones day.

If you put on perfume/cologne, then you should naturally expect to get compliments.
That's what it was invented for.

This isn't rocket science.

I just don't think it is very odd at all. People compliment strangers sometimes. Why is it weird. Have you never said to someone walking by "great outfit," "I like your watch," ....

It isn't any stranger than someone saying good morning when they walk by or smiling at kids.

What is happening in the world that you can't pay a stranger a compliment. I do so all the time!
