We don't know the context here. I've had that happen, and it was creepy. He followed me from aisle to aisle as I shopped with this look on his face. Finally he said "you smell so pretty", and I thanked him and he moved CLOSER. I took off to the checkout and asked if someone would engage him while I left so he couldn't follow me out.

I've also had someone say oh wow nice perfume and he WASN'T threatening.

It's not just about her not knowing how to take a complement -- it could have been scary.

Well I think, in those cases, the person could have said good morning and still been creepy.

It depends on how it's said and what kind of vibes you get off the person. I tend to be open to receive other people's vibes. Either way I say thank you and if the person isn't giving off anything bad I'll throw in a smile. Smiling at the wrong person can open the door for disaster- I speak from experience. If the person is "off" I say thank you and move away quickly.

I'd probably just say thank you.

If I had perfume on, I would say thank you and move on. If I did not, I'd think he might just be a perv, I'd say thank you and move on.

Oh for heavens sake.....no one is allowed to compliment another human being without being thought of as creepy? How sad.

I am a guy and I have been told that several times by girls/women... ...mostly when I apply Davidoff. I take that as a general compliment and not necessarily an invitation to jump into bed with them!!!

I wear Gucci and I get compliments all the time. Just accept the compliment, say thank you and move on.
