My friend dyed her hair blonde and she originally had brown hair. I refer to her as a brunette, because that is what she really is.

Okay, if a woman has brown hair (I do) would you refer to her as "a brown"? Or would you call a woman with red hair "a red"? Of course not.

Referring to the OP, why not just call her "the woman with blonde hair"? SHE isn't a blonde, her HAIR is blonde. Today, that is. Tomorrow, it might be a different color.

And why on Earth would you care HOW someone's hair got to be blonde? Oh, did you want to buy a vowel?

But to be fair to the question...let's say you're a guy and you like blondes, so you fall for a "blonde." Or a woman you THINK is a blonde, only to find out she's not...it's a dye job. I can see you he'd think the hair color was 'fake' or "not real."

If you meet a person with colored contacts, and love their green eyes....and then meet them with their glasses on and brown eyes....I can see how your reaction would be different.

Is that superficial? yes and no. Sure, LOOKS may be superficial. But we're all (women, too) attracted to what we're attracted to. And if you're attracted by something you later find out is fake I can understand and quite frankly think it's only natural that you'd at least need to 're-adjust' how you see that person. Before you meet a person the only thing you HAVE to attract you IS looks, and if what first attracted you changes or turns out not the be that person...well, I could see it being a question.

(And no, hair color is not the same as wearing makeup), although the first time my boyfriend saw me without make up, I could see his reaction, which I'd say is fair to describe as shock!)

In my house calling someone a blonde usually has little to do with hair color and more to do with intellect.

I must admit that's the first thing I thought, too.

Heck, 99.9 percent of everything discussed here is not some big world issue. Why did this one garner that reaction?

No, this thread is an outgrowth of a snarkfest in which the OP participated in this thread:

Why Is Hannah Anderson Not Being Officialy Investigated???.

The main issue devolved into the girl not being a "blonde" and that she appeared to waddle.

You call a person whatever they currently look like. If a person was a scrawny wimp and is currently a roided up Sly Stallone lookalike, you would call them a muscular guy. Not what you remember before the roids.
