I can like dark hair, just not with bangs. Jennifer Connelly, one of the few naturally straight-haired dark/light examples I can think of, has always gotten good reviews from me (hair and more).
This is an example of a braid:

This is an example of what hair looks like after you remove the braids.

Bangs look hot on some girls. Bettie Page had the perfect face for bangs. As others have stated, some hairstyles work better on different faces than others.

Why do people keep mentioning her? Bettie Page's bangs looked like a helmet.

Yeah, a total helmet.

A helmullet. Helmet with length. Looks too much like the first image that comes up in Google. My conclusion after a week of this: dark full set of bangs on light skin - the heaviness competes too much with the rest of the face. Although at least Bettie Page cut hers a half-inch above the eyebrows and didn't have the hairs line up perfectly. And the straight line over the eyebrows is the worst because females are supposed to have curves up there, not a straight line like a (male) unibrow.

You guys are trying to debate women's hairstyles with someone who doesn't understand what a braid is. Give up now.

I'd recognize a full-fledged braid. I figured people were latching onto that as a way to make me look bad. (I also know that braids were popular centuries ago - I'm not a hair novice.)

Another thing I saw today - a woman with a very short forehead. Probably of Mexican ancestry, where that is common. (Although she was older and so it still looked weird, presuming all ethnicities are prone to some recession.) Dark, heavy bangs simulate a short forehead, which doesn't look right on white women.

The OP's complete disregard for fashion is apparent. There's nothing wrong with being conservative about fashion. But being completely careless about it like the OP just makes me wonder what else he/she is careless about in his/her life.
