Colognes smell differently on each person because of the chemical makeup of the body. What smells great on one guy may smell terrible on another. So don't go by what someone else thinks is great until you try it out.
It's best to try different ones to see what works for you.
I've never really gotten into cologne but I want to try it out. I don't mind spending a lot if it's good. What do you like the best?
It's gonna depend on body chemistry, this is also true for women wearing cologne. That said, I love Clinique Happy for Men. Very citrusy and upbeat. I also like(d) Oleg Cassini. It has a leather note of all things, but it works. Not sure if they still make it. Ralph Lauren Polo is also very good.
Hermes makes some of the best men's colognes on the planet. They are not cheap. The scents are always soft, sophisticated, and long lasting. An evening fragrance is Bel Ami that is warm, leathery, and masculine. Another great one is Un Jardin En Mediterranee - it is beautiful and elegant: complex, subtle, with notes of herbs, spices, and florals.
Some others have mentioned Creed, they are great too but really, really expensive.
I am a woman and I love all things Hermes. I wear Un Jardin Sur Le Nil and I probably will wear it until I die.
