It does not look like it cost $135, even with the little crocodile.

I'd save the $35 and get a Polo RL sweater.

I hope you bought your sweater. I purchase many clothing items from Lacoste for myself, husband, and some items from their home line. The majority of sweaters made by Lacoste are cotton and it does not fade quickly if you wash on gentle cycle with warm water. That is one of the reasons I love Lacoste, less items to take for dry cleaning and they are of great quality. My husband is rough on clothing and his Lacoste items last several years before we end up donating to make room for new items. The price tag of $135 for that particular sweater is because it is a high selling item. When I worked at Macy's years ago the Lacoste line would usually sell out items like this which are limited in colors at full price within 3 weeks of it hitting the floor. Same goes with the cotton Ralph Lauren, you are going to pay for quality. The only cotton sweaters I would stay away from are Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger, both are using cheaper suppliers and they do fade.

Personally, I don't think of argoyle as 'classic', although it comes 'n' goes in popularity often. I think the important thing to ask yourself is whether you know you will wear this sweater often enough to get your money's worth. If you think you will then by all means buy it. I don't know what the care tag says but, being a quality expensive sweater, it'd be a good idea to have it dry-cleaned.
