If you got close to me with those rat shoes you'd get your feet stomped on!

I've got story about some ugly shoes. These:

(except I think with a slightly higher heel)

I bought a shoe store in the early 80s, just for the heck of it and because I figured I'd at least be able to get all the shoes for my wife and daughter at half price. (They bought LOTS if shoes!) So I walked in to get the tour of the store and saw a row of these Armadillo brand oxfords in various colors. "Those will go," I said. But the current owner insisted they were one of his best sellers. I soon found out he was telling the truth. Before long I was stocking them in about 10 colors (every color available), every size in narrow, medium and wide and in suede, smooth leather and denim.

This was a fairly small shoe store in a smallish town (20K at the time), but within a year Leverenz Shoe Co., makers of Armadillos and Morgan Quinn shoes, invited me to tour their factories, use their boat on Lake Michigan for a day or two of fishing, etc., etc. Seems I had become their biggest buyer!

I sold tons of those ugly things for $31, then $33 and finally $35 before I gave up the shoe business. Seemed every young gal wanted those for her first pair of "high heels". I'd advertise them for $29 pair in mid-August for a back-to-school special and have moms and daughters lined up to buy them.

They kind of grew on me. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Cabela's Alaskan Guide® Low Sneakers : Cabela's

I actually own a pair of these. You really can't tell from the photo, but they're significantly wider at the bottom than the top. It's like wearing a pair of rubber-soled clogs. Cabela's sells them as slippers but calls them Alaskan Guide Low Sneakers. Personally, I don't think they look like either. They're comfortable and tough enough to stomp around outside in winter (I've stomped through snowbanks and 3" deep slush puddles in mine), but man are they fugly. Cabela's has a full line of functional yet fugly footwear, come to think of it.

I LIKE those shoes, they look super comfy! And sturdy, that's what I look for in a shoe; durability AND comfort!

Maybe I'm weird, but I'd rock the ones in the third link!

The fourth one reminds me of a pair of shoes my mother used to have. She used to call them her "sh*tkickers". Man, were they ugly. When I was about 14, a friend of mine and I were going to wrap them up for a friend's birthday as a gag, just to see her face when she opened the present. LOL!

I'm not sure what that was supposed to be. Macaroni? Innards?
