I LOVE P'trique, he works for The Platform. His humour is obviously above your head.

Coach designs usually don't appeal to me. I wouldn't say Coach is ghetto though. They have some nice classic looking handbags, but I don't know what the quality is like these days as I haven't purchased a Coach bag in 15+ years. They definitely appeal to the masses, especially their logo bags, but so does the LV monogram which is double the money, unless you're buying knock-offs.

I find myself gravitating towards Balenciaga bags these days. Their City, Work & Weekender bags complement my lifestyle. They're lightweight bags and I love the colors they offer. And even though Bal bags are popular, I don't see many folks carrying them.

There have been a lot of valid points made in this thread. And suddenly I remembered my Mother said to me growing up and sadly I forgot. She said be a trend setter not a follower. I have to admit I felt pressured and possibly a little embarrassed by my friend. She is a wonderful person, but her money vs money is a big gap. Apparently she expected me to keep up with her and I was brain washed a bit.

With that said... I thank everyone for their opinions, the good and the bad.

+1000 means rep points, not cash.

But if $1000 means nothing to be all ghetto, what's stopping you?

Grown women behave the same as teenage girls these days...the only real difference is they can afford the stuff teenage girls want.

When do you suppose they grow out of being a girls?? Never. I am single and have plenty-o-women friends of all ages, married, divorced and single. I know women in ages from 45-70 who have gone through toe ring stages with their daughters/granddaughters. Now it is tattoos.

This is so true.

It's the classic difference between people with money who've always had money and people with money who aren't used to having money. It's typically the latter group that are obsessed with making gross displays of their wealth.

I come from a rather well-heeled family, and I can tell you that we don't pay nearly as much attention to what other people carry or wear as the OP and other wannabe-snobs do. Carry and wear what you like because you like it, not because you think it makes you look like you can hang with the moneybags.

If who else is carrying/buying an item that you purchase can detract from your enjoyment of an item then it probably wasn't a smart purchase to begin with as it's value has little to do with anything tangible ..... it's a purchase to fit a feeling and feeling are fleeting - you can't expect a long term fulfilment from such purchases

It would be like buying an expensive, status car because you liked the way it looked, you liked the way others looked at your when you drove it and you liked the image it portrayed ...... even if the actual driving of the car was a bit off

When others adopt the same vehicle, Kia comes in and steals their lines and the general public have moved onto the next thing then all those feelings that you liked are gone and you're left with just a car, that while nice is rather ordinary in the trend world and that you really don't enjoy driving
