Yes. Same thing. Same process but...

weave = black women
hair extensions = all other races/ethnicities

Calipoppy, are you a hair care specialist or do you know my mom?

i find it a bit arrogant that you think you know my moms hair better than herself.

She used expensive products but still couldn't let it grow and you insist it is her own fault. Ever heard about genetics and some people just have bad hair genes?

I have a friend, she has very long hair, almost reaches her butt, never uses any products, only cheap shampoo. No conditioner. Superhealthy and shiny hair. Not due to great care - just awesome genetics.

I just saw something I had never seen in my life. We were at a drive thru fast food place in Daytona Beach a couple weeks ago, sitting behind a car with two black women in it. The one woman was hitting herself on the side of the head, and repeatedly kept doing it for the whole time we were in line behind them. It looked really strange and I said to my Sons. "What the hell is she doing ?" They told me it is called "tapping the weave" because her head was itching and if she scratches it the weave will pull out !

I don't want to know what was crawling around under there to make her head itch so bad ! Makes me itch even thinking about it.

Hell no. The natural hair movement has proven that everybody can grow hair out of their own scalp. Stop wearing other people's hair and just grow your own.

Healthy hair (and length retention) is not about using expensive products. ALL hair grows (unless a person has medical issues that affect hair growth) and there is no such thing as having "bad hair" genes. And I really wish that the "good" hair and "bad" hair nonsense would die.

If someone wants to grow their hair long and healthy, no matter the texture, there is a wealth of free information available via hair forums, YouTube hair care demos, books, blogs, etc. There really is no need to cling to the old myths about having "bad hair".

It may be easy for me to say because I've always had long hair. But I also have had scarring alopecia, so I have a big bald spot over much of the crown/top of my head. At the time it was devastating. But the rest of my hair is still as long as it was (mid back/bra strap length), so I can cover my bald spot with the rest of my hair. (a pulled straight back pony tail)

Personally, I'd never get a weave. If my alopecia were to ever return and IF I had the confidence -- I'd just go shaven or bald -- OR I'd wear wigs before I'd get a weave. For the most part I just have accepted that my scalp and hair condition is what it is, and I'm not going to weave. I don't think it's at all good for your hair. it fact I think it's very harmful.

My HAIR is not who I am. Every once in a while I even go out and TO WORK, with my bald spot showing. (if I part my hair in the middle it shows)
