How much of a guy income should he spend on clothes a year? For example if i made 50,000 a year you think it would be alright to spend $500 on clothing per year?
I know you will say whatever you want but what is an appropriate amount?
Too many variables, even if we ignore financial aspects.
Do you need suits/ties for work? Do you work in a business casual environment? Or do you have uniforms for work?
Do you need formal clothing because you attend a lot of white-tie or black-tie events?
How about sports/workout clothes, do you play a sport that requires specialized clothing or would cause you you to go through several pair of running shoes per year?
Do you live somewhere with 4 distinct climates?
Do you actually need to replace old/worn out clothes, or have you changed sizes? Or would you just be buying new clothes because you want to buy some newer fashions?
There is no set "appropriate amount" for anyone to spend on clothing no matter what salary they make.
If you want to wear designer high dollar clothes then do so, if you are just as happy going to Walmart, Target, Kmart or LL Bean then do so.
Just because somewhere some expert decided that some part of society should spend 3 months worth of salary on a diamond engagement ring does not mean that is actually true and that goes the same for clothing, homes, vehicles, etc.
You spend what you are comfortable spending on the items you want to spend your money on and I find it is generally best not to spend more money than you have income.
Your kids will need rest of the materials later to cloth themselves.
