People tell me I am good looking and sometimes girls tell me I am cute but I have never been called a prettyboy like some of my friends, what is the difference?

Prettyboy is more feminine-looking than good-looking. Someone who spends way too much time on his hair and clothes.

My guess is a tough or rugged man can be good looking but a pretty boy is generally never considered to be "tough" even if he has nicely sculpted "gym muscles."

I wouldn't call "pretty boys" feminine. For instance, Johnny Depp has (or had when young) a pretty face. He is not girly. He's often kind of styled in a grungy way. But his features just look "pretty" even if not feminine. I suppose there are some feminine elements, but not enough to make him look like a girl. He's just BEAUTIFUL, like there's symmetry and balance, etc.

Good-looking guys are often lacking the pretty features. They may even be groomed in a more neat, stylish way & still not be pretty because the face is not, well, pretty. Like I think John Krazinkski is good-looking, but he doesn't have a pretty face. He has a big nose & ears, but he's still handsome.

Pretty boys are more pretty...good looking guys are rugged looking, I think. Pretty boys seem almost un-approachable. Not all of them are like that, but many seem to be.

Honestly, I think the term "pretty boy" is often just used in an attempt to insult an otherwise very good-looking man.
