Men shouldn't wear hats inside and women belong in the kitchen.

And what's with women wearing pants? A nice frock with nylons and some sensible heels is the proper etiquette for a lady.

And don't get me started on colored people using the SAME drinking fountain!!??

No one can show why wearing a hat inside is so bad, at least not with an argument more legitimate than why women should not wear pants.
Well, farting at the table doesn't impact the world either, but it's considered rude.
My mother always taught me that it's very rude for a man to weat a hat at the table.

You also eat with the proper utensils, proper order of food, and every other eating etiquette? Or are you picking and choosing for what is convenient for you?

Also, having a hat on is now considered rude? That escalated quickly, it went from not etiquette, to now it being rude.

So, besides your mother teaching you, where else do you derive it from? Do you have any basis for your argument besides "someone told me"?

With the "fart", a person could make an argument the smell would be distracting while at dinner, thus having an objective reason for it being rude. Stating "my mother told me" is not a measurable reason.

By the way, is the hat off eating while just inside, or is it inside and outside?

Absolutely. Here you go.

Men – Take hats off, including baseball caps …

  • In someone's home
  • At mealtimes, at the table
  • While being introduced, indoors or out (unless it's frigid!)
  • In a house of worship, unless a hat or head covering is required
  • Indoors at work, especially in an office (unless required for the job)
  • In public buildings such as a school, library, courthouse, or town hall
  • In restaurants and coffee shops
  • At a movie or any indoor performance
  • When the national anthem is played
  • When the flag of the United States passes by, as in a parade
  • Hats Off! The Who-What-When-Where of the Hat
It isn't "now" considered to be rude; it's always been rude.
However, if you want to act like you were raised in a barn, knock yourself out. It certainly won't make me look bad.

I have a sneaking suspicion that you've never heard of Emily Post, so let me help you out.

Emily Post's name has become synonymous, at least in North America, with proper etiquette and manners. More than half a century after her death, her name is still used in titles of etiquette books. In 2008, Laura Claridge wrote Emily Post: Daughter of the Gilded Age, Mistress of American Manners, the first full-length biography of the author.
Post's caricature (emerging from her etiquette book and scolding England's King Henry VIII about his lack of manners) was featured in Frank Tashlin's 1938 cartoon Have You Got Any Castles?. As a joke, she is called "Emily Host". The USPS issued a stamp of face value 32¢ on May 28, 1998 as part of the Celebrate the Century stamp sheet series.

Emily Post - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just for the record, my mother never heard of Emily Post. She was a refugee who emigrated to North America after WWII.
It's rude in Europe, too.
Any more questions?

Some people here already started talking about "my etiquette." Means what? They don't care.

I asked my grandpa last night about hats off/on.

One thing he said was a different view.

Taking hats off at mealtime should come naturally........because of the mealtime prayer.

Unless you don't pray.

Certain parts of Judaism require the head to be covered at all times with a hat, kippah, or yarmulkas.

Not doing so is considered offensive.
