Mine seem to get huge holes in the heel after only a month, tired of buying the jumbo packs of white socks (Hanes) that I wear around the house. Can anyone recommend a mens sock that will hold up particularly around the heel but is cost-effective for around the house?
I get large packs of ones made by athletic shoe companies at outlets like TJ Maxx. They usually carry Puma and New Balance branded athletic socks, a few others, and they are thicker, more padded, tighter weave, and hold up better than a Hanes or similar. They'd last forever for around-the-house wear. With Hanes, etc., you'll just constantly replace holey socks. The brands I listed tend to stay mire snugly fitted to the foot and don't stretch out during wear, as Hanes tend to. When socks get a little loose with wear, they're more likely to catch on things and tear. Looser weave, thinner socks just have a shorter shelf life.

Hanes anything are not good quality anymore. I buy almost all of my clothes including socks from Costco. I pay no attention to the brand, because everything I have gotten from them has been great.
I must say I bought some puma socks and they tore up rather quickly and did not last me 6 months . I'm sorry but my wal mart socks lasted longer than the puma .So from now on I will buy my old wal mart standbys .
I had the same sock issue. Even expensive socks would be ruined after a few weeks. The only thing that worked for me was buying slippers to wear around the house.
Any 100 percent wool sock should be very durable. I have several pairs - imported from Scotland and not really cheap - but they'll last for many years, even though I wear them in lieu of slippers around the house.
Gold toe brand socks are also durable, I've found.

Clarks. Order them from Clarks (they also have walk in stores). Their socks carry a lifetime warranty, if they wear out they give you a new pair. They fit well, have different types with some being very "cushiony" while others are more for dress.
If you wear them through, at least you get a new pair for nothing.
Just don't get cotton socks; they get stretched out.
