I don't think I've ever given this any thought (nor would I be able to eyeball a size, anyway).

I am a size 34. I'm 67" tall and weigh 170, giving me a BMI of 26.6 (overweight). I sound like I am stocky but I am actually really lean. I am quite a bit larger in the chest/shoulders than hips, and I have pretty strong thighs. If I just gave you my dimensions you probably would not conclude I was actually in very good shape. We're all built a little differently. We have this conversation often on the relationships forum when we discuss body types. But the truth is two people can be the same height, weight and waist size and have completely different body types.

I don't know if 34 is an "ideal" waist size or not. My wife seems to think so, so I guess I'm good.

it totally depends on the person. If your a little man, a 30 inch waist is within the realm of possibility. If your a big guy, there's no way.

I have a 35 inch waist, I'm 6'2'' barefoot, 203 pounds, and around 12% bodyfat. Could I stand to lose an inch off my waist? Yeah. Could I get down to 30-32? nope. Pelvis is too big, too much muscle wrapped around it.

^^ This.

Ive been doing a LOT more running lately so my stomach "flab" has gone down significantly. My waist is 30" right now. Looks pretty good with my "V". I got up to 34" in 2013 from beer drinking and crazy work hours. But Ive since got myself back on the right track.

I think for me, and my body type, 30" is ideal.

Yep. I work really hard on my abs and obliques and also keep my body fat % pretty low so I have that "V" thing going on. My wife LOVES it. Plus, I think its accentuated a bit from all the pullups (back and lats) and thrusters/presses (shoulders) that I do.
