Only time i ever see long socks with short shorts are those ball players that i see in walmart on occasion. Not sure of the sport though. Soccer maybe? Softball?
OK, that makes sense. Even though many/most schools nowadays no longer have uniforms, I suppose that the perception of such outfits might not have changed much over time.
Pretty much all Catholic schools still have that uniform, or at least around here they do.
I would never wear this look as an adult, its too childish. On the tv show Glee a few of the characters dress like that, but I've always felt its to make them appear younger then the actors actually are. I can't say I've ever seen anyone dressed in this fashion in real life besides the Catholic high school girls.
I suppose that the "too costumey" part might be a matter of opinion, though.
Perhaps a matter of your opinion. In mine, Fleetiebelle is being generous. The only grown women I can think of wearing such a get-up this year are Nicky Minaj or Lady GaGa. No one who expects to be taken seriously, for sure. It's a look for pop tarts.
if you have curves, it will look even better but regardless, it has a great ratio of skin hidden to shown. i do not see uniformed girls in america dress like this. it's mostly in japanese anime or in their schools but the population is dropping so rapidly in japan where people are refusing to have kids that pretty soon, no one will be able to wear it, haha. ok bad joke. but really, this is nice.
I've actually seen a few punk girls do it, like with torn shorts or a funky skirt and long socks, sometimes even with ripped tights or fishnet stockings under them. To be fair I believe they're all under 21 but I could be wrong. One year for New Year's Eve I wore a leather mini-skirt with knee-high leather boots.

I have always liked it when women would wear this style. Been very popular in Japan for a number of years now. Also, a lot of women in Crossfit wear this type of outfit when working out and it looks GOOD!!! The short shorts or short yoga pants type shorts along with knee high pretty colored compression socks is a sexy, sexy, look.
i like to wear that kinda thing around the house (shorts w long socks). outside as an adult...not so much unless it was a costume like others mentioned. boots are different.
You sometimes see thigh highs and short skirts on school girls who haven't yet set limits on displaying their bodies.
