You would think so but their marriage is platonic at this point. She doesn't love him and never has. She married him because she was a single mother with a 5 year old and was tired of going it alone. Also there is no sex and hasn't been in years. Since she felt he was so inept and inexperienced in the bedroom and wouldn't attempt to learn anything she cut him off years ago. Apparently he is fine with it and he sleeps in the guest bedroom. Not much of a marriage in my opinion but it seems to work for them although I doubt either one is happy.
I think they stay together at this point because they are in the early 60's, have a lot of property together and he is just not a super social person. I believe he may have Asperger's or some sort of personality disorder. She's often told me she thinks he asexual.
But your story sounded nicer.
