Men with wavy hair (European, natural, American, thin)

I'm a big fan of vintage movies. I've noticed that a large number of men during the 1940's era had naturally wavy hair. Seems like it's less common these days. Anyone else noticed this?

American men these days wear their hair shorter; hence, you don't see the waves.

Since I'm a tennis fan, I can think of several players who have wavy hair. Maybe it's a European thing for men to wear their hair longer.
