In some indigenous cultures, there is cosmetic scarring. Horrific to contemplate, but I hate to admit, some actually looked kind of cool.
The movie "Gangs of New York" brought this to mind (along with privatization of fire departments, LOL) where the main character won't have sex with his former partner after she got a huge Caesarean scar.
I have many scars from various past experiences, mostly visible, but not glaringly so. It has never seemed to impede my dating processes (when I was single) but then again, maybe some guys got close then said to themselves "Whoa, no way, dude!"
I never try to cover them up.
One guy did say "Wow, this scar is almost touching that one..." but we went on to you-know-what....
I know you might say, depends on where they are, or how bad they are, but I am just curious in general.
My husband and I both have scars. He had his first, a vertical incision that runs the whole length of his stomach. It was from surgery when he was an infant. I've had two c-sections and I have an 8" scar that starts at my ankle and runs up my leg. I've never worried that he would find me less attractive with my scars...he says the c-section scars are beautiful because they brought him his children.
The scar on my leg has healed well enough that when I've had to have x-rays on that ankle, the techs are always amazed that I can have that much metal inside without a bigger scar.
I recently acquired a few due to surgery, so I can't be too judgmental about anyone else's. My doctor recommended silicone sheets and I've been using those, so hopefully the scars will continue to fade away even though I don't think they look so bad now.
Absolutely not a deal-breaker for me, I find scars interesting and sometimes quite attractive. I have some of my own, several from a serious car accident in my teens that I barely survived. Also well-faded cosmetic scars, marks left from previous piercings, a couple tiny childhood injury ones. Some may see them as unsightly but they all have a story and purpose, I accept them and don't feel the need to hide them at all. If a potential partner is freaked out by that then he won't be seeing me again.
Sweet Like Sugar, silicone sheets are well liked by doctors, I haven't used them instead I covered my scar with Micropore paper tape (3M Brand) it helps to keep the scar flat while gently protecting it, and it's dirt cheap. Best to to use at least 2 weeks post op and you can wear it until it starts to peel off before reapplying (usually a few days at least), very low maintenance.
Don't bother me any. Plus my body isn't exactly flawless. lol I had stretch marks, scars and cellulite. Trying to get rid of that last one though!!! lol
Behind almost every scar is an interesting story: I want to meet that person and hear that story!
