'Crack' n me up
I got through about 10 pages of this thread last night before my poor eyes, and my belly -- from laughing! -- gave out. OMG, but too funny.
Still, I think undergarments serve a number of real purposes, and my interests are best served, I guess, wearing them during the day under my clothes. They protect me from some of the fabrics I choose to wear, like wool, and protect some of my nicer garments from me.
I also seem to recall a fashion designer making the comment that beautiful clothes needed a good foundation? Who was that quoted man?

Theoretically, no, underwear is not exactly necessary, but it does protect your clothes, and pretty ones are a nice treat for your partner, when you undress in front of him/her.
Think: layers of a good cake.

There's nothing worse than snail trails on your leather couch because a house guest forgot to wear hers. Sorry, had to say it.
At the same time, I simply CANNOT wear them under jeans. I saw one girl at a bar with her low riders and granny panties peeking out along her waistline. My friend said, "Look, she's wearing her big girl panties!" and we couldn't take our eyes off the spectacle before us and laughing hysterically.
There's a time and a place for panties. Unfortunately, last night I was wearing jeans and ended up at the Emergency Room. The nurse told me to get down to my undies and put the gown on. I shivered when I realized my faux paus. LOL
