I honestly wasn't sure whether to put this thread in Fashion or Weather or SF-Oakland so mods feel free to move as necessary. In any case, I have recently moved to the Bay and have noticed many people wearing jackets, hoodies, etc. even when it is very warm, even hot outside. In one extreme case this morning I saw a woman wearing a light-duty parka. I have noticed this across all ages, genders, races, socioeconomic statuses, etc., so the excuse of people being elderly or homeless can't really be made, at least not in all cases. As someone familiar with New England weather I find this very strange, as it gets up to 60 back east and everyone's practically naked. Has anyone else noticed this -- in the Bay or elsewhere? Is this cultural or what? And I mean it is WARM -- in the 70s and 80s. And super sunny.

Summer in the bay area is chilly shock once you get used to 90+ with 70+% humidity for months on end.

Ive noticed this in all of the sites i visit when online shopping. All of the girls are wearing shorts and hoodies or bikini bottoms and long sleeved shirts. I dont feel thats ever realistic at least not in the heat of day. Now i have worn stuff like that at night but the ads are showing these other women in hot sunny areas with long pants and shirts on. I just dont see it.

In San Francisco? I just looked up the weather and it's in the mid 50s-mid 60s all week as the high. That isn't that warm. When I used to live there I wore hoodies/jackets during the summer because it doesn't get that hot in San Francisco. I remember going to watch fireworks on the Fourth of July and freezing even while wearing a jacket.

I lived in Walnut Creek where the temp was always a lot hotter, so when going from 90 degrees weather to 60s it felt a lot colder then it probably felt to those used to the temp. So maybe the people your seeing are coming from warmer areas of the Bay Area.

You are new to the Bay area. It can be warm during the day, but it can get very chilly during the evening which is why you see the jackets/hoodies/sleeves.

If the weather is under 80, I've got long sleeves on outdoors. I live in the South Bay. If its under 75, then boots come out too. Under 70 - leather jacket. Under 65 - parka.
