Hi,

Could anyone recommend any fashion textbooks, preferably in French? I want to learn more about fashion while practicing another language. I can maybe dress myself okay, but I kind of want to know if I understand the basics, and I want to start learning what the pros know.

The more I think about it, the more I kind of want to attend fashion school. I know I'm in debt and not really a fashionista, but I'm also still young and yearning for new experiences. If anyone could help me develop a one year plan to get up to par and submit a portfolio, I would appreciate the advice. Fashion school is exotic to me, and I've loved since I was young the idea of pursuing fine arts training.

I took a quick look on Amazon, and they haven't got much in French on fashion... some historical books, some out of print stuff. Nothing much there.

I recommend looking for a copy (or a subscription) to French Vogue, Elle, Cosmopolitan, or Grazia (I think the French versions of Cosmo and Grazia are a little more on-trend for what the typical fashionista is wearing on the streets of Paris right now). Madame Figaro is a women's magazine with a lot of fashion content. You can check out the online magazine sites too.

Magazine mode, beauté, joaillerie, défilés, culture, sorties, votre magazine mode Vogue.fr
Magazine Cosmo : Beauté, Mode, Sexo - Cosmopolitan.fr
Magazine ELLE : magazine feminin mode, beauté, cuisine - Elle
Magazine Mode & Beauté - Grazia
Madame Figaro : Mode, Beauté, Société, Célébrités, Recettes, Horoscope

Thanks, I think I will certainly check there. If you find anything else, let me know.

Thanks. This isn't exactly what I had in mind, but it is a start.

There's an author named Jay Calderin who has written some guides to fashion, detailed stuff that is possibly along the lines of what you'd be interested in. His books are on Amazon. (None in French, though.)
