Everytime we see a female celebrity without makeup in the news, people always freak out at how unattractive they look. I was talking to grandpa the other day and he told me that he thinks today's girls wear too much makeup. In his day most girls went barefaced(and didn't shave), he went on tell me that he thought girls in his day were more attractive because of that.

I couldn't help but wonder if our repulsion for barefaced women is largely due to media brainwashing. What do you guys think?

Women don't exist to be "pretty" and unfortunately the media has made them into nothing more than images. I hate those stupid magazines that have "barefaced celebs" on their covers. I think the people responsible for such drivel should be slapped in their made up faces.

We've become so shallow. People should wear makeup if they want to. And if they don't want to, they should feel free to just be who they are. I used to wear a lot of makeup (I grew up in the '80s.) As I've gotten older, I care less and less about what society expects me to look like and more about what's comfortable. I think your grandpa has the right idea!

This is a repeat of a post, do women look rough without make up. Here's the gist.

Some do and some don't. Some men could benefit from some added sparkle too.

Some men prefer a natural look and some like Tammy Faye.

Make up should complement and not over power a woman's looks.

"our repulsion"?
Speak for yourself!

I know many people - men & women - who are not repulsed by women who CHOOSE to go makeup free.

Yet another post blaming 'the media' some some ridiculous thing....

I am not completely blaming the media, I am just suggesting they may have a role in it as well as our larger popculture in general. I notice that older man(over 40) prefer more natural looking women, while younger man seem to be completely repulsed by barefaced women and hair on women too.

The only time I get hit on by younger men, is when I am fresh faced with minimal makeup.

Less makeup gives a youthful look. Hang around teenagers...the girls wear minimal makeup in comparison to when we grew up in the eighties.

Going to a dance or a night out partying, is a different thing.

It might be because we live in different areas, but the young women were I live cake on their makeup. I have noticed in New England/Midwestern women do tend to wear less makeup. Its the same in Western Europe(except the Uk) vs Eastern Europe were the women wear the women wear even more makeup.

My comment about young man is based on experience. They have grown up on porn, this gives them a pretty unrealistic view about how women's bodies/faces look. I even heard some say they preferred women clothed since most "normal" women look ugly naked. Its pretty sad when you think about it.

Check out these threads: 70% girls are ugly without makeup (srs) - Bodybuilding.com Forums

90% of women look better clothed than naked - Bodybuilding.com Forums

The site above is a site dominated by young men(16-25).

It was a grammar error, I am sure you understood what I was trying to say.

Every single face is different ,especially because the personality is a significant contribution.
I have seen some extraordinary make up on women I believed to be an artistic expression. Some are more skillful than others.
I don't fault them for that.
Some seem to be experimenting with some wild expression, and it largely depends on the attraction they are hoping for.
Some women look anemic pale and sickly, maybe they are looking for sympathy, or it is a cultural abnormal, they are trying to identify with.
Make up is an expense /investment ,from the price of it and it's duration .
Look at the amount of women with tattoos ,it's staggering , I never saw so many in my life even growing up near several navy people I knew as a kid.
I see that and make up as some low self esteem , compensating for something, like breast implants and Botox.
In some women , I think it helps and in some they have gone over board.
NO intention of hurting her feelings but Loretta Swit ( M.A.S.H. Margret Hulahan) you can see her lips were severely over done, after she left the show .
She was perfect before, I could be wrong but it does appear that way.
I pity women that have over done their breasts, or posterior , purely for sexual attraction , they can't comfortably be in public. though they go any way.
I am in southern California, so I see a lot of it , not even making an effort to seek it out.
From this guys POV, Moderation is the more attractive .
