I have grown a lot and have known many nice folks covered with tattoos.

But, why does Hollywood keeps portraying thugs, druggies, and criminals as heavily tattooed? I think it is a disservice to nice decent people with tattoos. It is really a disservice to folks in real life.

No it is true and has been true for a while but sailors have traditionally had a lot of tattoos as well

A lot of ordinary, average people try to portray themselves as being tough by getting tattoo'd, thanks in part, to Hollywood, I'm sure.

If you choose to get heavily tatted up you take on the stereotype, stop complaining. It's like saying if I starting wearing baggy clothes and walked around with my jeans past my package, of course people are going to think I'm a hood rat.

But, that is not what I hear from tattooed folks. They do not think there is a stereotype to tattoos. They think is perfectly normal.

I always suspected that. People in this country are so f-ing stupid I bet that's the precise reason they get those tattoos. Another is probably to get laid.

There are nice people with tattoos but most people I know who have tattoos get them where the sun doesn't shine.

In other words, they get them in a non conspicuous place. These people are concerned about their careers and realize that if their arms and neck are all red and blue colored they stand a lesser chance of being taken seriously when they go to apply for a job.

I don't know if it's just Hollywood portraying tattooed people in a negative way but for a long time tattoos have been considered to be out of the mainstream and sort of low class.

While a lot of thugs are heavily tattooed I know normal many hard working people (male & female) with multiple tattoos.
