Ties for women were "in" sometime around the late 80's, I think. There were different ways of tying them so that they didn't look like men's ties, and they were smaller and more feminine. There was a way of tying them to make a rose shape, and some scarf-style looping, I vaguely remember. The multicolored ones looked nice. Tied in a rose shape, they didn't look like ties.

When I was in prep school in the late 80s we were already moving away from them as part of the uniform. Mostly because ties suck. Have you ever worn one OP?

School uniforms are one step away from a costume, and you really don't want to wear a costume in the workplace.

Women would wear a silk scarf rather than a tie. You can buy women's suits and shirts in any dept store.

No, I haven't. I just thought these school uniforms looked cute. I've been informed that this was a trend in the 80s; the decade of ugly, so apparently, I have no sense of style...

You can wear a stylish tie just like what this main vocalist is wearing for work....just not a silver glittery type. No harm for work.

I had to wear a tie with my school uniform in the 80's and early 90's. It was this kind: French Toast Girls' School Uniform Cross Tie - Ties - Marcus Uniforms

It wasn't exactly thrilling.

When I was in high school, we didn't have uniforms but we had a dress code for Mass days which said we had to wear a dress, or slacks and a tie. So sometimes I'd wear one of my dad's ties, usually a thin one with a lot of color, so that I didn't have to wear a dress.

I can't imagine wearing a tie as a grown woman, except maybe on Halloween. I knew a woman who wore scarves with her suits, like this: Beautiful Dark Haired Young Business Woman Dressed In A Navy.. Stock Photo, Picture And Royalty Free Image. Pic 18236647. That looked very polished and put-together. One day I complimented her on how nice her scarves always looked, and she moved the scarf to show me a surgical scar...she broke a bone in her neck and had to have surgery. I never would have known, and the scarves looked like a very classy, very unique personal style. I think you could pull off a look like that, as long as you have a nice long neck. I've tried the scarf look, but my neck is short, so it doesn't look that nice on me.
