Did you feel my answer to your post was disrespectful or offensive? It wasn't intended to be, swgirl.
As to your question about your body art? I wouldn't assume to speak for you. I don't know you.
Oh, no, no, not at all. I didn't take it that way. I know that your post was along the lines of "to each his own - just not for me." The reason for my reply was because, on another thread, the OP was bashing people with tattoos and referred to tattoos being a fad. Nothing against your post at all, just wanted to explore the use of that particular word.
ETA: I have 6 of my own, but I will own up to a particular prejudice that I have regarding tattoos. It shouldn't matter, but I refuse to get a tattoo smack in the middle of my lower back because of the whole "tramp stamp/'ho tag" connotation. I am not a tramp, and I dress conservatively so no one would see it, but still...

My oldest tattoo is 24 years old. Can something with that length of a time span still be considered a fad?
By it's very definition, a fad is something that is novel and that is embraced by a large amount of people for a short time, and then abandoned when it becomes mainstream. An analogy that I can make, although not quite a fad, is the upsurgence in people choosing to have children when they are in their 40s and beyond. What I find ironic is that some of the same people who don't care for tattoos think nothing of harassing me to have children. (I'm 40, BTW)
Yes. The remnants are still there, but people will stop getting new tattoos in large numbers when the fad drops off.
Rubik's Cubes were a fad. All of those Rubik's Cubes still exist. They are just in a landfill instead of under their owner's skin. At some point new tattoos will drop off just like new Rubik's Cube purchases dropped off.
I have a tattoo on my shoulder blade. To me, I think tats are about control-not getting too crazy, and being practical.
It's fine to have a few, but not all over someone's body. I don't are for the excessive tat look. Like one guy who's a porn star , and his arms are covered in tats to the point it looks like he's wearing ugly shirt sleeves. Totally unappealing.
And have them in places that can be covered for professional reasons.. And nothing vulgar, or ex's names, as the latter just isn't too practical.
As my pastor joked. You have "Bob" on your shoulder, but you're going home with Ted. Not gonna be a fun night, unless it is only 1 night lol
So I think tattoos are trashy, depending on how they're done.
I personally never found any tattoo I've seen to be even remotely attractive that and the fact that I'm a germophobe and would be worried about HepC. I'll just pass on the whole experience. I have friends with tats and I don't love them any less for having them. I do think they look unprofessional in the work place and should be covered up.
I have two tattoos (unbeknownst to most people in my day-to-day life). I also think there are plenty of trashy looking tattoos and plenty of trashy people who have them. Likewise, there are plenty of trashy people with no tattoos, and plenty of people with tattoos who aren't trashy at all.
That pretty much sums it up.
Tattoo threads are pointless on here unless someone wants to ask for advice re: tattoo ideas, how to locate a good tattoo shop, etc.
