Hey don't knock those wind suits. I had a million of them. So comfortable and versatile. I haven't shopped for a suit in years. Don't women's suits still have some sort of shaping or "shoulder pads" just to give some structure?
And, yeah...skinny jeans, UGGs, and ombre hair are absolutely going to be savaged by people in 10-15 years, and then in 20-25, will be "so retro" (or whatever the current word meaning "retro" becomes).
Wife used to remove the shoulder pads from her blazers/jackets back in the 80s. Said it made her look too much like a linebacker.
Me, too. I detested shoulder pads. I hated 80's fashion, and avoided stores altogether. I started designing my own clothes, with all the tailoring that 80's designers were too cheap to put in.
Wind suits, at least as referred to in the video, are nylon track pants and warmup jackets. I don't especially associate them with the 80s, myself (except for the multi-zippered "parachute" pants with the elasticized cuffs). My college roommate was a cross country runner and lived in her "wind pants" in the dorms in the mid-nineties, much like college-age girls live in black yoga pants and black leggings and leisurewear, now.
The examples from any era that people cringe at are the extreme ones. Plenty of people in the 80s were wearing Day-Glo fanny packs and Zubaz. But plenty were also wearing jeans (albeit of the now-dated wash and rise and cut of the day, but still, just basic jeans) and T-shirts and Keds and the like.
I don't think blazers with padded shoulders are a super over-the-top example of 80s fashion. They were pretty ubiquitous for quite a few years.
