Anyone here wear scarves/turbans/hats to cover your hair (completely or most of it) because you don't like your hair?

Like, on a regular basis?

I'm not above throwing on a cap if I don't like what my hair's doing on a particular day (usually due to static, humidity, didn't get a crack at the shower before I needed to leave, etc.)

But if I didn't like my hair to the point where I preferred to cover it up, in general, I'd probably just change my hair.

I put something on if my hair is nappy that day. Otherwise, only think I hate about my hair is it's too short. Some broke off in the back, so I cut it up to even it out. So, rather than down my back like it was, it's around my shoulders now.

I honestly really like the idea of turbans and headwraps, but as a white woman, unless I'm channeling a 1920s flapper, they run a really high risk of coming off looking silly. Too bad.

I wear a baseball cap pretty much every day, but it's not to hide my hair which is very long... It's because I wear prescription glasses and so I like to keep the sun or rain out of my face. Also in the morning, after a shower, I condition and brush out my hair and put the hat on when it's still damp. It "trains" my hair to go back out of my face. Later when my hair is mostly dry, I remove the hat and flip it and shake it out. Finger comb it. Then it looks the way I like for the rest of the day.

I focus on keeping my hair healthy, well conditioned, and I avoid things that damage it such as heat appliances and dyes and products other than shampoo and conditioners (I use 3 kinds of conditioner.)

I think, based on what I know from ladies I've known, that if I had different hair due to different ethnicity...if I were an African American woman, I would not straighten it. I would do something with twists or braids, something that turned "nappy" into beautiful.

But I have certainly seen some lovely scarves used to stunning effect.

Personally, I love the look of natural hair, versus weaves, chemical straighteners, hot combs, etc. and always cringe when natural hair gets described as "nappy," which is almost always used pejoratively. But I know from previous conversations that I don't get a vote. Still my personal opinion. I know that it's more prone to breakage, though, and can be difficult to care for. I also like braids, twists, knots, and neat, well-kept dreadlocks.

Nope.
I LIKE my hair.

And if I had some issue with it, I would rather fix the problem than cover it up.

Oh, there are times when I'm totally okay with throwing on a hat and going, versus taking the time to fix the problem in the moment.

I took the OP's post differently.
She mentions HATING the hair, not just that it's a bad hair day.

Right, that's what I noted in my first response, but OP hasn't been back yet to clarify if, by "don't like your hair," she meant "don't like your hair ever, in general," or "don't like your hair on a given day."

There are some days when I hate my hair (usually when its overdue for a trim and won't behave). Other days when I love it.
