Scientifically, is there something different about hair on men of East Asian descent? I am East Asian and have never liked my hair. It could be the way I handle it, but I think it tends to be stiffer or drier than other people's hair.

Grow dreadlocks, problem solved.

I have never seen an Asian with dreadlocks. I kind of want to.

I actually hate putting gel or any other products into my hair. It just seems wrong or annoying. I'm an obsessively clean person. I'm always afraid people look at me and think I'm one of those people who just cares about Star Trek or looks at his computer screen all day and never goes outside. Also when it's shorter it stands up on top which looks dumb. I hate having longer hair as it tickles my skin.

Come to the Bay Area. I am sure there are a few here in Oakland. Definitely lots of white people with dreads.

East asians tend to have coarse, mostly straight hair. So this means heat styling doesn't work well, the way your hair falls at different lemgths can be different than you expect.

Work with what you've got!

I'll trade hair with you, lol.

I envy East Asian hair -- it's very dense, smooth and glossy. I have straight hair too, and lots of it, but the strands are very fine and wispy.

Maybe you need a new stylist, preferably one who cuts Asian hair often? Sounds like you simply haven't found the right style for you yet. If you haven't already, have you considered going to a higher end stylist experienced in cutting Asian hair?

Generally speaking, natural Asian hair is awesome -- thick, shiny, and strong. Of course, there are Asian people with naturally wavy hair, curly hair, thin hair, and all shades of brown hair -- I've seen it all.

I get the feeling you're pretty young. Be thankful you have hair; you'll be sorry when it's gone.

If you're using shampoo, stop. Wash your hair with cool water only and use a little sesame oil.

Yes...Asian hair is different from Caucasion or African hair....even red-head's hair is different!

It would help the discussion if we know where "East Asia" is. India?

Consider yourself lucky that you have hair and are not a white male with extremely high testosterone and therefore bald.
