I wore make up every day from my teenage years up until I hit around 50. Then my skin changed and I have yet to find a foundation that doesn't make me look worse. It accentuates the lines around my eyes, and in general makes me look like sh--t.
I now do the unthinkable: Go without makeup.
But honestly, the one thing that looks worse than a woman without makeup is a woman in bad makeup. Especially an older woman who still wears it like she's 18. Didn't want to be one of those. I'd prefer being one who ages gracefully, so the thick mascara has gone in the trash with my mini skirts.
The older I get.........the more I love my sunglasses.
Ugh, I'm so conscientious about how I'm changing as I age that sunglasses on me may need to be replaced with a mask. (Just kidding (sort of) but my bags are bad.)

I think the best thing women can do is just go with it and age gracefully. I think Meryl Streep is sooo much more beautiful than the countless ones who go under the knife and come out looking weirder and weirder every time.
My skin tone has evened out a lot in the last few years. I go many days without wearing it, but when I do, I find I need less. I actually look better with a bit of foundation or concealer under the eyes, blush, eye shadow, and lipstick.
Necessary? No. But it makes ALL of us look a helluva lot better, and I wear it because I like it.
Incorrect. It depends on your complexion. I have dark skin and after Accutane, my horrible acne cleared up very nicely. I look much better without makeup than with it, which is a good thing, because I wouldn't wear it no matter what. Women with pale complexions look better with a little, IMO. And too much is too much on anyone. No one should look like a drag queen, including drag queens
Its a free country. Women get to manage their outward appearance however they wish.
Used properly, makeup enhances your appearance and can even help project the real person outward.
Just like every thing else, people can use it badly, or put too much on. But usually using makeup does not signify that women are being dishonest about themselves.
The OPs feelings about makeup reflect his own hangups, and do not reflect the way most women who use makeup feel, IMO.
As I am aging, I have discovered that I like myself with less makeup than I used to wear. But I wear makeup and earrings almost everywhere except for the fitness center. I consider this my "look" and it reflects my desire to respect my immediate surroundings enough to look as good as I reasonably can.
Some women have nice, even complexions and look great without makeup.
Personally, my face is red and splotchy no matter what I do. I use makeup to cover up the redness and even out my complexion. I'm not hiding who I am, I just want to look like everyone else.
Yep. I have a tendency toward the same thing. It's gotten worse in middle age, because when I was younger, I was just very pale.
It's that ruddy skin type you see particularly in people of British Isles ancestry.
However, I hardly wear makeup. If I am looking to even out the skin tone, have found bare minerals does a pretty good job as long as I used a red reducing primer, first.
Actually believe it or not, makeup was first invented by men for men in Ancient Egypt, I don't wear makeup because it is toxic.
