You could just do like some people. Use wipes or a towel, whatever, and just clean the major areas, without the entire bath or shower middle-man. After all, those are the areas that will release power odor, sans breath, but teeth-brushing is fine.
So, just get the pits and lower regions, and you don't have to be submerged in water or standing under it to do such. So trying that could work. And maybe a full-blown bath or shower every few days.
In the winter, I only shower every other day. Sometimes, I'll stretch it another day. Earlier in my life, I lived in a house that didn't have a bathtub or a shower. It was fine in the Summer when we could play outside with the hose and a cake of soap. In the winter, we took what my aunt called a "wh--e's bath" which is what VanillaChocolate described above.
As we age, many of us lose some of those natural oils that help to lubricate our youthful skin, and bathing daily takes away the little that is left.
Of course, if one works in a very physical or a dirty job, every day is probably best.
I can't imagine not showering everyday. Your body has natural oils that come off on upholstery, and when it builds up it stinks and it's nasty. I would not allow anyone to get in the bed with me that hadn't showered that day.
If showering everyday dries your skin too much, try using cooler water and moisturizing body wash.
I think it can also depend on what stage of life you're in. When my kids were small I only bathed them every other day...it is all they NEEDED. Once they hit puberty they needed daily showers. I find as I'm getting older I no longer NEED a daily shower (usually I do shower daily, but I could easily skip a day and not notice). My hair is much dryer and doesn't need to be washed as often.
I do think it's an individual thing. Some people do need to bathe more often than others.
