Womans fashions are one of the largest scams in the world retail cycles almost justifying knock offs ( if made well as some are not). Purses and handbags unless diamond or gems studded are generally made for 1/4 the retail charge. The popularity is driven by customer susceptibility of womens greed, an illusion of prestige ( once the market is flooded no-
body cares and nobody impressed) . Women actually who spend hundreds for a purse are mostly mocked , considered fools and materialistic suckers. My wife yesterday bought a non oustentatious medium sized all leather purse for $18 at a
second hand store in mint condition which sells for $145 at
TJMax She gets designer clothes for $4 at Goodwill . A vest that sells for $350 she paid $12 and its seriously like totally new! God I like her! The exploitation of womans fashions has
cause many to go into severe debt driven by image, in-
security ,attractive features ,competition, and marketing
frenzy like QVC and so-called sales.

I'm not interested in prestige or materialism. I don't care about brands or logos. I just want a good quality leather purse that looks nice and isn't used (nope, not interested in second hand). I am willing to pay more if it's something that will last a long time and will weather years of my use and abuse. I don't buy a lot of purses, but the few that I do own are in the $50-150 range and will last a long time and are classic (yet still interesting) styles.

And guess what? It's my money, so I'll spend it how I want on whatever I want with no apologies to anyone.

Yep!, most women buy expensive bags for vanity. I do think some big brands have great design; Chanel , Fendi, but at the end of the day it ain't worh the money.

I agree. Toting an expensive purse only impresses other materialistic woman.

OP, I guarantee that there are choices you make with your money where you spend it on things that I don't think are worth it. Different strokes for different folks. You and your wife are both happy with second hand inexpensive handbags and clothing? Great. Other people aren't? That's great for them. Don't make the mistake of thinking your choices are right and other people's are wrong. They aren't - they are just different choices.

Great push backs by posters and to a great extent your all right! There freedom factor to prioritize decisions whether perceived by me as too over the edge which doesn't make me right only opinionated. My wife does remarkably gets those high end fashions not inexpensive ( originally) but slightly if at all used . Thanks!

Keep in mind that someone has to buy those expensive things and get tired of them, in order for your wife to find them secondhand. You don't want everyone to realize those things are a waste of money, or they'll quit buying and then donating when they're tired of the items, and the cheap supply will dry up for your wife.

All of my purses are leather and most of them are good brands that would have been pretty expensive new. I got them all at Goodwill for $4 each. I'm glad that other people splurge on purses and then give them away when they're tired of them. So people, please don't stop Your splurge today will become my bargain find in a couple years.

Well, if its second-hand, at least you know it will last a long time!

Also, used clothes are already pre-shrunk and pre-faded. My mother used to sew a lot of our clothes, she always washed and dried the material 2x before sewing it. Interesting, the pre-and post measurements! What a shame it would have been to spend all that time making an item just to have it shrink the first washing

Actually, I understand brands and logos are considered "low-class" like that giant MK. Look, they sould pay me to walk around advertising their product

We're talking about purses, not clothes. My leather purses don't need to be pre-shrunk, and I don't want them pre-faded.
