I haven't heard of anyone getting annoyed by a woman posing with her hands in her pockets or arms crossed. Because those come off as just neutral, unassuming positions. One hand on the hip comes off as showing off or trying to look "sexy" or "sassy," and two hands on the hops comes off as pompous. And I'd be just as annoyed if a man posed that way.

It appears to have been going on at least 50 years that I remember.

Wow, I had no idea people could get so pissy over something so insignificant. Thinking about, I realize I do pose like this quite often, either with one or both hands on my hips. I never even thought about it before, it just feels natural when wanting to take a picture that's a little more posed. Not gonna stop. People need to get a life and focus on something at least an iota more important.

I do this pose all the time, I don't really think much of it! I think it's a pretty natural and typical pose that most women do for photographs. Me personally, I feel awkward if I stand idle with my hands by my sides in photos, so putting my hands on my hips seems perfectly fine to me.

The pose I hate seeing, but it's been going on for a long time now, is the damn duck face pose!!
Where the girls always pucker their lips for the camera & it looks like duck beaks when they do that...It's so annoying as hell!

Perhaps it it supposed to make them look slimmer or something, but I think it generally looks ridiculous. I see this in portraits (such as those taken at weddings or on cruise ships), and in pictures on the facebook ALL the time. I'll admit I have an irrational annoyance about this, and I just wonder how people can think this looks good.
I never really paid attention to poses like that....till you mentioned it! And really don't know, I don't even really like my pics taken, nor am I gonna pose for one! Maybe they feel it makes them look slimmer, or maybe its just a natural thing for many. I simply stand whatever position Im in.
As blondazbabe says, that goofy 'duckface' pose. WTH is up with that???

Generally hands on the hips with elbows going out and making someone of a triangle isn't slimming. It gives the exact opposite effect. Keep your arms down if you want to look slimmer.
