Can we all agree that pleats in pants (particularly men's pants) are awful?

Not necessarily. This looks good to me vs skin tight skinny pants.

I don't think they're necessarily awful, but if they aren't just right they will look real bad. Beware the "diaper effect".

They're basically the male equivalent of mom jeans. They aren't flattering on anyone, but they're often chosen because comfort will trump style and because it takes a few tries to find pants that fit properly.

I have a friend who swore up and down that pleated pants were the only pants that fit him properly. It took a few tries of finding the right fit, but I managed to find him flat front pants that weren't "skinny" and fit his shape. Once he saw the difference, he swore off pleat fronts, and hasn't gone back. Thank goodness. ;-)

If they fit just right they look better than flat fronts on certain men, usually older guys. Went through this over the holiday season, he tried on tons of pants and the pleated won out for his body type, but it was only one style in a certain brand that did the trick. Pleated looks better on men than on women, for sure.

I think this is too general. My husband (58) looks better in pleated pants (6'2", 230 lbs.); and when I was younger (5'4" and a size 4/6 then and now), pleated pants made me look slimmer and taller. Now, though, I look equally good (or bad!) in either flat front or pleated.

Many overweight men look much better in pleated pants.

Actually, pleats are not flattering on anyone overweight, unless they are inverted box pleats (which aren't common on men's pants). Pleats add bulk. Properly tailored flat front are more flattering.
