As for false hope, you might want to spend some time gaining information instead of speaking in a knee-jerk fashion. The lasers have been PROVEN to regrow hair, but they haven't been out all that long and they tend to be expensive.

Latisse only began trials for hair growth very recently. If Latisse can grow eyelashes, then there is no reason to think it can't work on the head. In fact, Latisse users are warned not to let the product drip onto other areas of their faces because hair will grow where they don't want it. If you had the slightest idea how Latisse worked, you wouldn't dismiss it out of hand.

I am beginning to think you own a hair transplant business since you are dismissing newer methods and are so obsessed with transplants. You are also heavily invested in trying to talk bald men who are happy out of being happy.
I didn't say lasers and Latisse don't regrow anything. I'm just saying that they won't do more than slightly thicken hair, except maybe in rare cases. (For female hair loss, that might be all that's needed.) Slight additive effect to existing treatments, I guess.

I don't own a transplant business (I wish I were rich). I don't care whether or not bald men are happy, but I'd rather they not be deluded.

Re the post above this implying that hair loss is only from the mom's side - that's false.

Because it looks obvious, costs a fortune and is painful

I have a lot of luck taking Biotin. I take about 5000 mcg daily and my hair grows like crazy. When I stop taking it, I notice the growth slows, too. Just a thought for anyone who's got thinning hair and might want to try a cheaper, less painful alternative. Doesn't hurt to try it.

Yes "guess" is the operative word for you.

Banish Baldness in 2014: Four Key Treatments*|*Alan J. Bauman

"Lasers -- Once viewed with skepticism, low-level laser therapy (or LLLT) is now widely used in a variety of medical disciplines and has become a key tool in the hair restoration specialist's arsenal due to its ability to rejuvenate dying hair follicles.

With the FDA clearance of mutliple laser devices (Sunetics' Clinical G-type Lasers and Laser Brush, HairMax's LaserComb, Apira Science's iGrow, Theradome's LH80 PRO and Midwest RF's MEP-90) and strong clinical evidence supporting its efficacy, more physicians are incorporating drug-free laser therapy, in combination with other treatments, to provide optimum results for men and women seeking to restore their locks, or stimulate healthy hair growth.

In the beginning, laser therapy was limited to in-office clinical laser "hood" treatments and at-home hand-held laser "combs" or "brushes." However, a new wave of wearable helmet-style and more discreet hat-shaped laser devices are now entering the market and will become more widely available at doctors' offices this year."

The laser only slightly improves areas of the scalp with thick hair, while it dramatically improves areas with finer hair. Eventually, with continued use, the hair becomes more uniform over the scalp.

As long as the hair follicle is not dead because the person waited too long, the laser can reactivate it.

That is largely an appeal to authority. It is very vague and does not claim that lasers regrow much hair ("dramatically" is your word). Nor does it say whether lasers maintain hair long-term, probably because no one knows. Finally, his next section presents hair transplantation as a "key treatment."

Another woman here who doesn't understand men or male hair loss? I don't know why women feel compelled to argue against hair transplants. I think few if any men are concerned about what random women think of transplants. No man has said that's a factor in whether or not he'd consider a transplant.

Yes, he's an authority. His articles on hair restoration have been in the Huffington Post several times because he's a RECOGNIZED authority. And although he does hair transplants, he also cautions against rushing into a transplant because so much can go wrong. He much prefers newer methods like lasers.

Lasers work as long as you use them on a regular basis, exactly like prescriptions do. You actually think doctors use lasers without knowing how they work?

Good lord. Google is your friend and this is not hidden information.

You don't know why women feel compelled to argue against hair transplants? I could ask why you feel compelled to argue for them. Plenty of men here have stated they aren't worried about being bald. YOU are worried.

No, I don't know why women are arguing against hair transplants. Men rarely argue against breast implants.

And, no, I don't think doctors know, at least not well, how lasers work. They are fairly new. Heck, the medical community doesn't seem to particularly know how minoxidil (definitely no wonder drug) works.

I was responding to your previous statement as quoted below:

"Nor does it say whether lasers maintain hair long-term, probably because no one knows."

You are trying to change the implication of what you said from "no one knows how long lasers maintain hair" to "no one knows how lasers do what they do".

Wow. You must think we are dumb not to notice what you're doing. Stop trying to deflect from the fact that you said doctors have no clue how long lasers will maintain hair.

You don't stop getting laser treatments. When you stop doing laser treatments, the hair follicles go back to the way they were before. Doctors KNOW this, even if you don't. Also, laser combs and laser helmets are available via mail order and the instructions always specify that you must use the laser on a regular basis to maintain the new hair growth. Once you stop, the follicles revert back to where they were.

It's not a freaking mystery.

Lots of men argue against breast implants.

This is a discussion forum, not an agreement forum. Hence, some people will disagree with you.

And you DO know why some of us women have cautioned against them, because we've told you throughout this thread. Transplants are expensive, painful, and risky if you get the wrong practitioner. If a man wants one, he must do a lot of research to avoid unskilled practitioners as there are a lot of horror stories. Google "hair transplant horror stories".

Even getting a transplant too young is a risk - Expert warns against hair transplants for men in their 20s | Fox News

But the main thing a lot of us women have said, is that we don't all reject bald men in the first place. I think that's a good thing for men to know.

Great post. I agree. If men are undergoing this surgery to attract women, it's largely unnecessary.
