Back in the day when you actually had to buy or rent porn it just like any other performer you needed to know something before making the cash investment.

I've noticed that about Suicide Girls.

It's not like good skin isn't valued by most men, but I think the hard-core porn industry justifiably seeks curviness and wildness before it. Both of those traits point to high hormone levels, which in turn contributes to acne.

Funny you should mention that!

I suppose it is true with the heels but something I noticed in a flick long ago in the 80's that given how easy it was for the couple to get undressed (and that when they were dressed, none of the camera shots were below the knees), one could conclude that they were shoeless on the set despite that the "story" would suggest otherwise.

These days, well who knows and this really isn't a discussion about film technique except for the point of what it takes to accomplish on camera (or stage) is not how it might be in reality. As my belly dance teacher pointed out, you are wearing enough makeup to look like a clown but if you don't, then you are whited out by the intense lighting.

Yeah, but when they make videos, I think they typically include some female-female sexual stuff.

Also, some of those same women also work in other parts of the porn industry. Good skin is an asset in any visual media.

I say that all the time, actually

I think it was Huffington Post had an article showing them with and without makeup, pretty interesting, actually. Most of them looked nothing like themselves before and after.

This. When you see someone on television or in a movie, there are usually some serious production values going on to make everyone look pretty. If you look at people being interviewed in the nightly news in "on-the-street" interviews, their skin tends to be pretty unimpressive.

Hard living is surely a contributor, but the truth of the matter is that most people need a ton of airbrushing to look good on film.

Except possibly for Jon Bon Jovi. I've read that he has incredibly good skin with really tiny pores. Go figure.
