i have made comments to my SO about my preferences. he has responded accordingly, most of the time. sometimes it isn't worth it to him. thats fine. i'm not too worried about it.

i take a similar approach when he gives me constructive criticism.

delivery and word choice are important.

I haven't read all the replies, but I have to chime in here. My partner always talks about how much he loves the natural look and how he prefers me without makeup. But whom does he point out when we are discussing gorgeous women? It is almost invariably ladies who are wearing makeup.

I'm not bitter or insecure about this, I just wanted to point out that what people claim they prefer and what they actually find attractive at a subconscious/visceral level can be two different things.

But you asked her out several times. Was it not clear from the first date that she overdid it in the makeup dept?

It's true OP's initial post makes some very generous assumptions about what motivates women to do what they do. The truth is we men will never be ably to fully comprehend such an insurmountable mystery as that. We'd go crazy trying.

Why "I can't tell her that obviously?" That's your perception. Or is it an excuse?

You don't have to begin with "Hey you wear too makeup." You can tell her that you prefer women in general whose appearance includes little or no make up. Just ease into the subject. She might be flattered if you tell her you think she is pretty without a lot of makeup or that she simply doesn't need it. If you are sincere, it can be taken as a compliment.

If the only reason you wouldn't consider her as a possible gf is because of her makeup, it's more of a reflection on who you are than her wearing makeup and that's pretty darn shallow. It shows you are judging her by appearance more than anything else. She might be a great person but all you are seeing is some cosmetics on her face which can easily be washed off.

If she cares about you at all she would want to know how you feel. Whether or not she deep-sixes the makeup is her choice. By not saying anything you are not giving her the chance to make that choice.

And I will add to the others here who have said that not all men dislike makeup. I have met some who do and some who don't and I have had a very long dating career. But in the end, it's the wearer of the makeup who gets to decide. After all, how much of your appearance would you change for a gf if she asked you to change it?

Y'all know what make-up is about, right? The purpose of make-up is to replicate the look on a woman's face after she's, well, after she's had a really good game of "slap and tickle"!

Modern cosmetics trace their roots to ancient Egypt, where women applied colorful concoctions to their eyes, eyelids, cheeks and lips to emulate the look of a post-orgasmic flush. Think about that next time you’re at the store looking for the perfect shade of lip-gloss.
