I backed out of doing Tough Mudder because of concerns about this kind of thing. It might seem extreme, but when you have thousands of people getting scraped up/sweating/bleeding on the same obstacle course, and having full on body contact with that, getting scraped up myself...

Even though the odds of anything actually happening is extremely unlikely, this would be the perfect conditions to pick up a horrific MRSA infection or any other nasty disease.

More at link.

I thought about putting this in current events, but due to it being about the potential dangers of cosmetics and using others I would put it here.

I realize this kind of thing is obviously very rare, but the fact is this wouldn't have happened if women didn't feel they have to hide "imperfections" and there weren't harmful chemicals in them.
PeaceAndLove42 I read that it was due to a staph infection caught from the makeup brush nothing mentioned about cosmetics.

That's a bit of a sensationalist story because in one sentence it says she will never walk again. In another, it says they think she will be able to walk again, but only for an hour or two a day. And then, it says she'll never have feeling below her belly button. One requires this to walk at all.

Strange story. Very.

That is really scary! Before reading this story, I would have thought that a powder brush was less dangerous healthwise than a lipstick or mascara at a makeup counter. I thought that powdery dry substances wouldn't harbor bacteria (or as much) and the brushes themselves are dry, but sometimes they apply wet foundation with those brushes. There has to be a better way to try on makeup at the cosmetics counter. I think the woman may have had a cut on her face, even a small cut would allow all kinds of bacteria to invade the body.

Russian roulette is right. You would think the cosmetic brushes they use on you at the counter have been cleaned, but realistically how would it be possible to sanitize all brushes after each customer? It should be done, but I doubt it's done each and every time. When that brush goes back and forth between the nostrils and the upper lip it doesn't feel nice at all.
