You do realize most celebrities and anyone on television only wears make up while they are on camera right?
The rest of the time they are trying to save their skin from all the muck of the makeup so they don't wear any while not in front of the camera.

I will take old, dull, boring and gray anytime over shallow and judgemental just because I have never put color or perm in my hair and I haven't worn makeup for more than 10 years.
My body, my gray, my face, my choice, deal with it or don't look at me.

I agree. Just a little enhancing can make a world of difference. It can just brighten up a face.

I have made a difference in the world a few times, just with a little make-up to brighten up my face.

As for letting an industry decide what is right... well, I'll just say I think many people would disagree with that strongly.

I'm confused how gray hair = boring person or gray hair = dirty. Is everything gray dirty then?

I think caring about fashion and beauty is great if that's what people are interested in. Women (and men) should be able to get and share ideas and tips about how they can use make up or wear clothing to look their best, etc. Does that extend to harsh criticism of women who choose not to do these things because they are focused on something else? Should everyone buy into the same fashion industry doctrine or be called dirty and boring?
Somehow I don't think that's why she's considered a crazy witch.

Immature first post aside, the OP has a point. I recently began wearing light foundation and lipstick, and I feel wonderful with it on. More polished. That being said, I wouldn't and don't judge those who go without makeup. I haven't noticed anyone treating me differently.

Good point. She was at a disadvantage.

Oh and...fwiw...I personally do not wear makeup every day and it is incredible how differently I get treated.

When I have my face on and hair did, I am the nice lady from down the road. When I don't, I am the crazy biatch from down the road.

Maybe its because I'm a little older but that's how much difference it makes, truly.

Absolutely indisputable that being nicely made up is part of good grooming for a woman in public, I didn't invent this and a billion dollar industry tells me Im right.
I am well groomed, but I never wear makeup. I brush and floss (yes, really) twice a day, I shower once a day, I wash my hair every 2 and almost always keep it in a pony or a braid. My nails are kept clipped short. Never polished (except toes in the summer). So with no makeup, you are telling me I'm not well groomed?
That billion dollar industry has product to sell, so OF COURSE they try to push that. It's a money maker for them!

Now however I find a female face WITHOUT any care or attention to be a sign of a dowdy and boring nature. Don't even get me started on greying hair!

About 1 in 100 women look FABULOUS with grey hair but the majority of us look tired, washed out, like we need a damn good bath.

Which brings me back to the scientist, in her dowdy mole colored outfit - how CLEAN is she in her work if her own personal appearance (on a prescheduled tv interview no less) is so low on her list of priorities?

I would say the exact same about a male scientist appearing on a tv show without combing his hair btw, and so most likely would you.
You would not like me. No makeup - ever! I am certainly not dowdy or boring though, according to my friends, coworkers, and kids! (And to be honest, those are really the only people's opinions I care about).

And grey hair? I have it! Will I ever color it? Nope. No way. That starts a vicious cycle of upkeep and expense I'm not willing to undertake. Also, I have EARNED my gray hair. I will wear it proudly - in a pony or a braid.

As far as a bath...I hate baths. But I do take a shower daily.

It shouldn't work that way, but it does.

Anyone who disagrees should try it themselves.

Try to say, break into a house WITHOUT makeup on or hair did, and police will arrest you in a hot minute.

Try to do it WITH your hair did and face on, they will likely break in for you.

Trust me on this. Makeup/grooming in general is EXTREMELY powerful for women, like it or not.
Hmmmmm. I have a pretty good career...never wore makeup. My boss is female...I've never seen her wear makeup either.

If your eyelashes are invisible -- wipe as much of the mascara you can off the wand and lightly coat your bottom lashes. Coating just the top lashes when your lashes are pale just looks wrong.

Hmm, television, especially HD TV is a whole other animal. You definitely look better men/women with camera ready make up on. You don't have to wear it in "regular" life, but on TV it kind of all goes together. You're projecting an image - literally and figuratively.
