This may be a silly question but I don't normally wear dresses. I want to get a slip of some sort to avoid any see through moments, but I noticed there are now a wide variety of undergarments and plain old slips are hard to find. I see a lot of shapers that are either shorts or skirts, which ones are best for dresses? I would think the skirt ones but having shorts underneath has its own appeal. I'd live to get everyone else's thoughts and experiences. There are too many choices and I don't know where to start.

Have you looked at many dresses recently? I rarely wear them myself, but the ones I have purchased recently are always lined, so there's no need for a slip.

I think that while comfortable, shorts wouldn't prevent the "see-thru" effect.

You can buy slips at many place (brick & mortar and online). There is no one "best" for dresses. It all depends on your preferences and the fabric/fit of the dress. If you can afford it, get one of each and try them. You'll be able to use both for all types of outfits.

Shorts under a dress would NOT be comfortable! Get a dress...wear it around the house until you "get used" to it! As mentioned, few are "see thru" nowadays!

Actually, I do bike shorts with a casual polo-shirt type dress, & it's not bad! Don't think I'd want to try regular zip-up shorts!

Shorts under a dress are VERY comfortable, especially for us curvier girls who want to avoid 'chub rub'

If you are worried about appearance, I'd be more averse to weird bumps and puckers created from wearing shorts than from any "see-through" issues. If my skirt was too sheer, I'd be far more self conscious of the underlying athletic wear than of a brief flash of silhouetted leg, etc.

Hellpaso's observation about lined garments is a good one. Well-made skirts of very-sheer material are usually lined or layered. Once at home, a dim room, a mirror and a reading light or table lamp will let you know what a worst-case lighting situation looks like.

If you find that you *do* need a slip, any place that sells women's clothing for dress or office wear will have a number of options.

When we're talking about shorts, we're not referring to athletic wear. We're talking about the shapers that have legs rather than a skirt.

The jockey slip-shorts are great too.

^^^^ Agreed.

Part of the purpose of a slip under a see-through dress is hide the silhouette of the crotch area and the legs. So wearing shorts would not prevent this. I think skirt slips are better.
