Waxing and pain relief !!
I've had leg and bikini waxes many times but got to thinking. In this day and age, is there not SOMETHING to do about the pain? I am going on a cruise in Febuary and of course have a wax scheduled.
Any advice??

Doesn't the pain just last as long as the waxing is being done? I've never experienced any pain after the waxing was finished with. Does your waxing person put a cooling oil on the waxed area afterward?

I am talking about the pain while it is being done. No. it has never hurt afterwards. An hour of pure torture though! Of course I deal with it but I would pay for some pain relief or at least something to just take the edge off.

I put a cooling Aloe Gel on it, to get the redness and stinging out, soothe, moisturize.
I had problems too after waxing, and the "stinging" continued afterwards.
So I "played" the guinea pig and tried Aloe....and it worked for me.
One product I really, really like (for home use) is "Nad's", and I can highly recommend it.
Is pretty much made with all natural ingredients, and that alone lured me into trying it out.
It's like "goo", but spreads nice, smells nice, and it's used at room temp, or if to cool, leaving it in warm water for a bit.
Sometimes, when waxes were used on me, I broke out into tiny red bumps all over my leg, and started to itch.
Maybe from a chemical or fragrance ingredient in the wax?
I am not sure.......
No matter what you end up using...test it well before your cruise, to get used to the application, and how your skin reacts.
Enjoy your cruise...and Twinkle......the Margarita's are coming right up....LOL.

A little embarrassing
I am so glad to have stumbled upon this thread as I ran into a problem with waxing just the other day. Brunette that I am, and older now, *sigh* , I have to have my upper lip waxed -- generally when I have my hair trimmed, about every 5- 6 weeks. I have been waxing the area for about 3 years now, but not as consistently as every five to six weeks (if you can follow that), but at least four to six times a year.
Just this week, I had my hair cut and the waxing done. I am not sure what has made the difference, but my upper lip is still burning and stinging, and has, in addition, an almost 'numb' sensation. It isn't swollen or anything, but it has since broken out.
Can anyone explain to me what is going on? I do have sensitive skin, but don't understand what has made the difference this time. Should I be doing anything like putting on aloe or something? It has been almost too tender to touch.

RDSLOTS- It's possible they used a different product but it's more likely that you're developing an intolerance to it. I used to have my eyebrows waxed (had it done several times) but then one time, I had a horrible reaction to it. It hurt more that usual, my eyebrows turned bright red, and the next day all the skin around my eyebrows started to peel! I asked if she used a different product but she showed it to me and it was the same thing she always used. Something very similar to this happened after using a certain face wash for about six months. My whole face turned red and burned and nothing would soothe it (luckily it went away).
Some times your skin will only "accept" a product for so long and then you develop an allergy to it. I know this isn't very comforting, but I hope it helps. Just keep moisturizer on it and DON'T treat it like acne (with acne medication), that will inflame it even more.

Thank you so much, ampetry, for the response. This morning, the area is less tender, but dry, and some of the previously inflamed areas are a little crusty, or scabby, and healing. UGH.
If I will no longer be able to have this done, how am I do get rid of the moustache I am growing? Or, do I just join a circus and be done with it? I guess I am self-conscious about it because I am brunette, but I do notice it on other older brunettes and think it is a bit noticeable. My husband suggested some time ago, if it bothered me so much, to have the hair lasered or to try electrolysis?
The first few times I ever addressed the problem, I used NADS, and liked it, but also developed a sensitivity, so I tried waxing. I guess you are right in that perhaps I have developed a sensitivity to this now. I plan to go by the salon tomorrow a.m., just to let my beautician, whom I really like, just see what has since happened.

No waxing here, yikes! Ill stick with the good ol' pink Bic razor, it works painlessly and just as effectively.
