Bras are too expensive for me to justify having a ton in the rotation. Especially now that they're maternity bras, which, like maternity everything, are even MORE expensive than the non-maternity version.
I used to wash them once a week, back when I had cheap, ill fitting ones from Walmart.
Recently, I invested in some pricey ones (how pricey? more than Victoria's Secret) and was told by the fitter that they should be washed after 2 wearings. She also told me that ultimately I should own several of them---yeah, when the lottery check comes! I put them in garment bags, use the delicate cycle and wash them in Woolite then air dry them.
Thanks for all the input. I was curious. I've always worn mine several times between washings (unless lots of sweat or in a smoky environment), and my bras have always lasted a long time.
A bunch of mine just wore out and I'm starting to replace them and the Vic Secret ones don't fit like they used to and their sizing is all kinds of wacky now. So, I ended up at Soma and paid about $150 for 3 bras, but they are GOOD quality and feel good and so much more supportive than the VS ones ever were, even when they fit better.
I'd be leery of someone telling me to wash them after 1 or 2 wearings no matter what. They probably know that washing wears them out quicker, and you will be back in to buy more!
Experts warn that over-laundering your intimates can damage your breasts - and advise doing it only once every ten days!
Not quite... read the article.
"According to a textile expert, bras that are washed too frequently can become damaged, which causes them to lose elasticity and become less supportive, which can be harmful to the wearer"
The solution is to replace them when they no longer support, not wash them less.
Yeah, a week is no problem if it's not sweaty weather.
