I don't know about all you, but lately I been reading a lot of stuff on the Internet about the fat acceptance movement. I am not sure what their message is exactly but from what I gather they are trying to fix the societal standard of beauty to include larger people(mainly women) and normalize overweight people. I know what's it's like to be overweight and have a low self esteem so I don't think it's a bad thing to raise the self esteem of overweight individuals. There was also the Tess Holliday model making the rounds on the Internet.
I think it's a waste. People will have their opinions about obese, too tall, too pale, too whatever and no "social movement" is going to change their minds.
normalize overweight people? DEFINE overweight? Because the current magazine, hollywood, photoshop model modes..... are not reasonable!
Models, actors etc are always going to be or at least appear to be physical more beautiful then the average person walking down the street. It's why a lot of them are chosen for the job.
I think people should accept themselves, no matter their weight. It doesn't mean to stop striving for good health. But it also doesn't mean that you should loathe yourself if you're not where you want to be, either.
You have one life. If you spend time hating yourself, it's not a very good life.
I think people should mind their own business. Don't like someone's physical appearance? Don't look at them. And people acting like they're concerned? Please. I would not presume to judge who is healthy or unhealthy by looking at them. Some of the heaviest people I know eat well and run 1/2 marathons, and some of the thinnest starve themselves and don't work out at all. You never can tell, and I just don't think it's my business.
Disgraceful and misleading. It's okay to be fat when you are young. Being fat when you are much older brings way too many health complications.
Misery loves company. And fat people want others to join their club and never leave.
