My husband carry his own keys etc. and I do not carry a handbag all. I need just my keys, my wallet and my phone that it. Only for work I have to have backpack for my work paper etc.
Most wealthy people choose brands or lines that don't display the company name, or that do so inconspicuously. The lines that have the "signature print", or the name boldly displayed are bought by people who are trying to appear that they're from a higher class than they are.
This. I'm not wealthy, but I don't like the bags that have logos plastered everywhere either. It feels better to have myself know the bag I'm carrying is nice, but nobody else really needs to know. Sure, it's nice when they compliment it, but that's about it for me.
Also with luxury brands, it depends on where the wealthy lives too. In CA, I see Hermes and Chanel bags quite often, but here in Minnesota, rarely. Same goes with cars. Lots of exotic cars in the LA area, but mostly BMWs here. There are lots of millionaires in MN, but they just don't flaunt their wealth like other areas do.
Personally, I love fashion, and if I had the money, I would buy the designer brands if I could. The quality is just unbeatable. I'm sure to those that don't care for fashion have their own guilty pleasures as well.

I agree. I don't like clothing or accessories with the logo all over it. It makes me feel like a walking advertisement. I have to admit it's a great strategy on the company's part. They are getting people to pay them money to provide free advertising.
The luxury brands are good quality. I prefer leather with a small logo. They last forever and if it's a classic design, it won't go out of style. I find these online or at consignment shops because I am not willing to pay the full retail price. Yes, it's my guilty pleasure.
I was given a bull hide leather valise and on the bus asked a brand packing guy what it might be.
He said "Mulberry" so I looked it up, and sure enough my valise was retail 1100.!
Couldn't give the thing away.
No one in Calgary knew what quality was. And it's cow town, for god's sake.
Probably in Vancouver or New York I'd have a lineup.
So I donated it.

Very much so.
Where I grew up, middle of the U.S., values systems as relate to what gets spent on what are VERY different. I grew up with some of the biggest key players in some of the largest agricultural cooperatives in the nation. People who own the land that grows the majority of the grain in the country, extremely large scale farming operations that are headed by just a few families. Obscenely wealthy people. They wear Levis (if not Rustlers or Wranglers or store brand jeans from Farm & Fleet). They have money, they assuredly flaunt it. They just flaunt it on things other than clothes. Attire is not of significant value within this particular culture. Hermes et al doesn't hold any particular significance, too few would recognize it or even care. Clothing and accessory brands are low priority, to them, and their money gets spent on other luxuries, entirely.
So what? If you have the $, there is nothing wrong with buying those brand names or whatever you want to buy. If you prefer the no name brands, then good for you. It is your money. I will buy what i think is made of quality. If i can afford a quality shoe, apparel, etc. that is brand name or not, then i will buy it.
